Associated Press

LOSING HAND: Digital game maker Zynga Inc. posted the latest in a series of losses that led the San Francisco company to replace its founder Mark Pincus as CEO earlier this month.

DAMAGE ASSESSEMENT: Layoffs and other cost-cutting helped to narrow the second-quarter losses reported Thursday, but the number of people playing Zynga's games on a daily basis plunged by 45 percent from last year.

BUMPY ROAD AHEAD: New CEO Don Mattrick, a former Microsoft Corp. executive, told investors to expect more volatility during the next six months to a year as he tries to figure out to turn things around.
