15-year-old freshman arrested for armed robbery at Del Campo High, Sacramento sheriff says

Sacramento County sheriff’s officials arrested a 15-year-old freshman at Del Campo High School for an armed robbery at the campus earlier this month, the Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies received a report at about 1 p.m. July 9 of a student being robbed at gunpoint by another student during summer school, the Sheriff’s Office said. Del Campo High and neighboring Will Rogers Middle School in Fair Oaks were both placed on lockdown while authorities searched the campuses for suspects. No injuries were reported.

The suspect approached the victim from behind in a restroom, holding a handgun, and stole the victim’s necklace before fleeing on foot, according to Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s robbery detectives worked with school administrators to identify the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody last Thursday evening and is currently awaiting arraignment at the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility. Their identity will not be released because they are a minor.
