I-15 closure now being called ‘barricade’ by police

Update: As of 1:15 p.m., police reported the suspect was taken into custody. I-15 southbound at Lake Mead Boulevard reopened shortly after 1:30 p.m.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — All lanes of I-15 are now completely closed to traffic following what started as an incident involving a suicidal person near Lake Mead Boulevard. Las Vegas Metropolitan police issued an update around 12:30 p.m.

“This has now been deemed a barricade,” the update stated. Police added SWAT and crisis negotiators have responded to the scene.

Initially, the I-15 southbound lanes were closed around 8 a.m. and later the northbound lanes of the freeway were closed, as well. The closure for I-15 southbound is at the Cheyenne exit and the closure for I-15 northbound is at the Washington exit.

Earlier, Nevada State Police said officers were dealing with a “sensitive police incident.” Las Vegas Metro police are assisting with the barricade.
