2 electric scooters recalled for problems that led to fractured teeth and other injuries

The manufacturers of two electric scooters, one sold exclusively by Walmart online, are offering refunds after recalling the scooters Thursday.

Here’s what to know about each scooter:

The Hover-1 Dynamo e-scooter

The DGL Group yanked 4,200 its Hover-1 Dynamo e-scooter because, as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice states, “The e-scooter’s brakes can fail, posing a risk of serious injury and crash hazard.”

DGL knows about this happening 22 times and these turned into injuries such as fractured teeth, a dislocated shoulder, lacerations, abrasions, contusions and strains.

This covers scooters with serial numbers that have “DMO-BLK-WY-2109-21729” followed by four numbers or letters. Find the serial number on the scooter’s underside. The scooters are matte black with reflective lights on the front and back of the stand board. They were sold only on Walmart.com.

Razor Icon electric scooter

Razor’s recall of about 7,300 of its Icon scooters sold from September 2022 through this past March after learning, as the CPSC recall notice says, “The downtube of the recalled electric scooter can separate from the floorboard during use, posing a fall hazard.”

Of the 34 incidents of this Razor knows about, two have caused injuries.

This involves model Nos. 13110003, 13110005, 13110040 and 13110042 with serial Nos. that start with 31EK30-01 or 31EK30-02; model Nos. 13110060 and 13110061 with serial Nos. that start with 31EK60-01; model Nos. 13110062 and 13110063 with serial Nos. that start with 31EK90-01; and model No. 13110084 with serial Nos. that start with 31EK10-01.

If you bought the scooter on or after March 11, 2023, you can get a full refund with proof of purchase. If you bought it before then, you have a choice of a $300 refund or $700 coupon for Razor’s website.
