2 teens shot, robbed of their jewelry at street takeover in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a shooting and robbery that left two teens injured at a street takeover.

According to an LAPD spokesperson, officers responded to the scene of a multi-victim shooting near 54th Street and Western Avenue in the Vermont Square neighborhood around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Simultaneously, other officers were dispatched to a local hospital on reports of gunshot wound victims, the spokesperson stated.

“Upon further investigation, both victims were at a street takeover when three Hispanic males approached them and robbed them of their jewelry,” LAPD said.  “A suspect pulled out a gun and fired at both of the teens, striking them.”

One of the victims threw an object at the vehicle after being shot, police added.

The victims, described as two 15-year-old boys, transported themselves to the hospital. Law enforcement officials originally told KTLA 5’s Carlos Herrera that the boys are “fighting for their lives,” however a later update from LAPD indicated that they were in stable condition.

Whether the shooting was gang-related is not known, and no further information surrounding the suspects or their vehicle was released.
