23-year-old gets murder charge after his ex-stepfather was shot, Fort Lauderdale cops say

A 23-year-old was arrested on a first-degree murder charge after police say he shot and killed his former stepfather Saturday morning in Fort Lauderdale.

Officers found a man, identified as 44-year-old Christian Colon, dead around 10:45 a.m. after being called to the 100 block of Nurmi Drive, Fort Lauderdale police Det. Ali Adamson said.

The shooting occurred on the street — and possibly at the house — where they used to live together, according to police.

Shortly after officers made the discovery, Colon’s ex-stepson, Darien Massad Turner, was taken into custody. It’s not clear where, nor how, they apprehended Turner.

He was booked Saturday into Broward County Main Jail, where he’s currently being held without bond.

Jessica Massad, Turner’s mother, has owned the 5-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom house at 112 Nurmi Dr. in the multi-million dollar Nurmi Isles neighborhood since 2016, Broward County property records show.

Massad was married to Colon from August 2011 until their divorce was finalized in October 2023, a month after Massad filed.
