4 sea lions released into wild by Southern California group after injuries

After rehabilitating from injuries, four sea lions were released back into the ocean by a nonprofit group on Wednesday in Redondo Beach.

The sea lions suffered from various injuries, leading to their treatment by San Pedro-based Marine Mammal Care.

Video from the event showed a group of volunteers celebrating as the four sea lions ran into the ocean, ready to return to the water.

One of the sea lions was found on Catalina Island in April where she suffered from injuries to her abdomen and front flipper as a result of fishing hooks. She was caught in a fishing line, which was tangled around her body.

Marine Mammal Care nurses dozens of sea lions and other mammals back to health before releasing them back into the wild. In June, the organization nursed back several animals, including dolphins, back to health after they were poisoned by domoic acid.
