8 hospitalized after exposure to toxin at Lynwood jail
Eight people from the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood were hospitalized after being exposed to a “toxic substance,” the Los Angeles Times reports.
The eight were hospitalized after they were exposed to the unidentified toxin a few minutes at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. The Times identified them as six inmates and two jail employees.
“Los Angeles County Fire personnel arrived on the scene and transported the incarcerated females to a local hospital for additional medical treatment,” the Sheriff’s Department said. “All the females were conscious and breathing at the time of being transported.”

All eight are in stable condition, according to the Times.
Officials did not provide any information about those exposed to the toxin, nor did they detail what specific toxin may have been involved.
“Although we have no further details at this time, our investigation is ongoing,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
