Another heat wave in the forecast for Southern California

Southern California is bracing for yet another extended stretch of above-average temperatures.

A “large and strengthening” high pressure system developing over Texas will move through the Mountain West and into the Golden State this week, according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in Los Angeles.

“There should be a few degrees of warming each day, especially away from the coast, with temperatures approaching 105 degrees in the Antelope Valley and 100 degrees in the valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura counties by Thursday,” the NWS said.

Daytime highs will be in the triple digits Thursday through Monday in the San Fernando Valley, the Inland Empire and the High Deserts. Coastal areas and the L.A. Basin will see temps in the upper 80s to low 90s.

The heat wave will also bring the potential of thunderstorms.

“Monsoonal moisture may bring a few showers and thunderstorms to the mountains and Antelope Valley late in the week into the weekend, and it is not out of the question that some showers could drift west of the mountains at times,” the Weather Service said.

This latest heat wave comes roughly three weeks after Southern California saw record-setting temperatures in the Antelope Valley and High Desert areas, along with record highs in the northern part of the state.
