Arrest made after small fire torches area in Palermo. Cal Fire says suspect caught on video

Cal Fire announced the arrest of a suspect believed to have started a vegetation fire last week in Palermo.

Firefighters were dispatched just after 4:40 p.m. Thursday to the Lincoln Fire, a acre that torched a 7,400-square-foot patch of land on the 6600 block of Lincoln Boulevard. The blaze was contained within an hour.

Video footage in and around the area just south of Oroville showed an individual setting fire to the grass, which helped the Butte County Sheriff’s Office identify a suspect, Cal Fire said in a news release.

Investigators interviewed and arrested a 39-year-old man who matched the description on Saturday. The man faces one count of arson and was taken to Butte County Jail where he was held on $75,000 bail.

Cal Fire and the Butte County Fire Prevention Bureau encouraged anyone with information about the Lincoln Fire or any other suspicious fires to call 530-538-7888 or report them to the Statewide Arson Hotline at 800-468-4408.
