Baby found dead in trash bin outside Woodland Hills home

A homicide investigation is underway after a 1-day-old baby girl was found dead outside a home in the San Fernando Valley Tuesday.

Police were notified after a 23-year-old woman who arrived at a hospital with extensive bleeding was determined to have just given birth, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to KTLA.

Officers followed up at a residence in the 23000 block of Burbank Boulevard in Woodland Hills and located the deceased infant in a trash bin in the front yard.

There was no immediate word on the cause of death.

The Police Department’s child abuse unit is investigating the incident as a homicide, the spokesperson said.

An attorney for the woman said her client was cooperating with investigators.

Neighbors said that there are two homes on the property and that residents in both units were being questioned.
