Brush fire in Thousand Oaks forces evacuation warnings

A brush fire in Thousand Oaks is threatening structures and evacuation warnings have been issued Saturday, according to authorities.

The fire was reported near Lawrence Drive and Ventu Park Road in the Newbury Park neighborhood, nestled north of the 101 Freeway and west of the 23 in Ventura County.

The evacuation warnings, issued at 2:30 p.m., are in effect for:

Calle Crusca
Camino Dos Rios
Select homes near Arroyo View Street

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office says residents in those areas must be prepared to evacuate if necessary, though there isn’t currently a threat to life.

As of 3:20 p.m., the fire was spread across half an acre but remained at 0% containment.

A police officer pulled over a self-driving Waymo vehicle in Phoenix after it ran a red light and pulled into a lane of oncoming traffic, according to dispatch records. The incident took place on June 19, but local media including Arizona Republic released bodycam footage of the traffic stop this week, showing the vehicle weaving in traffic before eventually pulling over into a parking lot. The dispatch records (which are written in all caps) say the vehicle “FREAKED OUT” and that the officer was ultimately “UNABLE TO ISSUE CITATION TO COMPUTER,” according to Arizona Republic.
