Double homicide in Elk Grove being investigated after man, woman found dead in home

Elk Grove police detectives are investigating a double homicide after the bodies of a man and woman were found by a relative Friday afternoon in a northeast subdivision of the city.

Officers were dispatched just after 2 p.m. Friday to a home on the 9000 block of Crosscourt Way, said Sgt. Jason Jimenez, a spokesman for the Elk Grove Police Department. The home is in the Perry Ranch neighborhood near the intersection of Calvine and Waterman roads, several blocks from Arthur C. Butler Elementary School and the private Merryhill School.

Jimenez said the “reporting person had gone to their family’s residence after several unsuccessful attempts to contact them.”

According to dispatch audio reviewed by The Sacramento Bee, the relative found a man and a woman inside a garage in what one officer called “obvious signs” of a suspicious death. The victims, described by the relative as a mother and father, were pronounced dead at the scene by police. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, which has not identified the victims, will have to determine when they died.

How the couple were killed also was not disclosed, but Jimenez said, “based on the investigation, detectives are treating both deaths as homicides.”

Other family members quickly arrived on scene, including several children that belonged to at least one of the victims, the dispatches indicated, as officers and detectives quickly secured the home and began their investigation.

No other information was provided by police in what was the second homicide in less than two days in the city after a man was gunned down Wednesday night in a hotel parking lot during a fight.
