Fatal crash prompts lane closures on 5 Freeway in Los Angeles

A Sigalert is in place Wednesday morning following a fatal crash on the 5 Freeway in the Los Feliz/Griffith Park area of Los Angeles.

The crash was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. when a pickup truck rolled over near Los Feliz Boulevard and crashed into a fence on the right shoulder.

It was unclear what caused the solo-vehicle crash but the California Highway Patrol has confirmed that one person was killed.

The crash victim has not been identified.

The incident prompted officials to close several northbound lanes during the investigation.

Traffic was backed up through the Elysian Valley with only one lane of traffic moving through as of 5:30 a.m.

Video showed multiple lanes remained close as of 8 a.m.

It was unclear when the freeway would fully reopen.
