Female critically injured after stray bullet hits her while watching fireworks, police say

A female was in critical condition after being hit by a stray bullet while watching fireworks Thursday night in Homestead, police said Friday.

The incident happened around Northwest Ninth Avenue and Fourth Street.

The woman, not yet identified by police, was initially taken to Homestead Hospital with a gunshot wound in her shoulder. She was later airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, where she remained in critical condition as of early Friday morning, police said.

Homestead Police say they are investigating and do not have information yet about the shooter.
