Fire near Lyons breaks out as crews continue to battle Alexander Mountain Fire

A fire was reported near Lyons on Tuesday afternoon, roughly 30 miles from where crews were fighting the Alexander Mountain Fire west of Loveland.

The Stone Canyon Fire was reported Tuesday afternoon and prompted evacuations north of Lyons and into the evacuation zones for the Alexander Mountain Fire, which continued to burn west of Loveland into Tuesday evening.

Mandatory evacuation orders were also issued within the Town of Lyons at 5 p.m. Tuesday "due to changing wind conditions," according to Boulder County Disaster Management. This includes the areas north of Broadway and east of 5th Avenue.

Boulder County Sheriff's Office PIO Vinnie Montez said in a video statement just after 2 p.m. that crews were responding to the fire to "size up the situation." The fire was estimated at 30 acres just after 2 p.m., according to the Lyons Fire Protection District.

Emergency officials in Boulder County issued a mandatory evacuation order for the area just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to nocoalert.org. Residents in the Eagle Canyon, Eagle Ridge and Stone Canyon areas are being advised to evacuate immediately.

Mandatory evacuations have continued to extend north of Lyons.
