Forecasters track a tropical disturbance in Atlantic. It may affect Haiti, Puerto Rico

Hurricane forecasters are tracking a new tropical disturbance over the open Atlantic Ocean that has little chance of forming anytime soon. But Puerto Rico and Haiti may see some effects in coming days.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, the National Hurricane Center said an area of “disturbed weather” is sitting over the central tropical Atlantic and is expected to interact with a coming tropical wave over the next several days.

This encounter may cause some system development as it moves toward the Lesser Antilles during the early to middle of next week. It will move west-northwest near the Greater Antilles in the latter part of the week.

The system has no chance of forming in the next two days, and a 20% chance in the next seven.
