The Hollywood Bowl could get a Metro station

Metro is contemplating a possible extension of the K line through Hollywood, and while the proposed project wouldn’t break ground for another 17 years, officials are wasting no time in asking Angelenos what they think about it.

Public comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the K line Northern Extension Project opened on July 23.

The K line, which currently runs from the Westchester/Veterans station in Inglewood to the Expo/Crenshaw station in Crenshaw where it connects with the E line, is also expanding southward to include two more stops: LAX/Metro Transit Center and the Aviation/Century station, both of which are set to open this year after significant delays.

Metro officials say the proposed project connects four major rail lines and six of the highest ridership bus lines in L.A. County and creates a crucial north-south transit route that would provide more service to several Los Angeles neighborhoods.

The DEIR has three proposed alignments, all of which would link the K line to the C, E, D and B lines:

Alignment name

Length

Main thoroughfare

# of new stations

End-to-end travel time (from E line to B line)

San Vicente-Fairfax

10 mi.

San Vicente Blvd, Fairfax Ave.

9 (10 with possible Hollywood Bowl station)

19 minutes

Fairfax

8 mi.

Fairfax Avenue

7 (8 with possible Hollywood Bowl station)

15 minutes

La Brea

6.5 mi.

La Brea Avenue

6 (7 with possible Hollywood Bowl station)

12 minutes

“With numerous transit connections, regional destinations and major employment centers, this project will improve access to jobs and essential services across L.A. County,” Metro said.

The public is allowed to comment on the Draft EIR until Sept. 5. Comments can be submitted by mail, email, phone and at a public hearing. More information, including dates for in-person and virtual hearings, can be found here.

After the review period, Metro will go through public comments and findings, technical analysis and stakeholder input to recommend a preferred alignment to the Metro Board of Directors.

Construction on the K line extension is forecast to start in 2041, with the project scheduled to open between 2047 and 2049.

The project is funded by Measure M, a half cent sales tax that funds transportation improvements throughout L.A. County.
