Homeless woman arrested on suspicion of arson in Tuolumne River Regional Park in Modesto

A woman was taken into custody on suspicion of arson for a fire that occurred on Tuesday night at Tuolumne River Regional Park, according to the Modesto Police Department.

Modesto Police and Fire Department responded to the brush fire at around 9:00 p.m. Karleen Keefer, 46, was arrested at the scene with a torch lighter in their possession.

Keefer, identified as a homeless woman by police, admitted to starting the fire, though it is not known why they started it. No injuries or damage to structures in the area were reported.

Bail is set at $100,000, and they are set to appear in court on Thursday.
