LAPD searching for ‘armed and dangerous’ man who is out on parole for murder

The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for a man who they say is armed and dangerous and on active parole for murder.

Angelenos should be on the lookout for 42-year-old Ezequiel Garcia, who is described as being about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds, according to the LAPD.

Garcia is wanted by police after he allegedly was spotted in a residential neighborhood armed with a rifle.

The initial call came in around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, with officers being dispatched to the area of 69th Street and Avalon Boulevard in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

Officers were provided a detailed description of the suspect and were able to locate him immediately after they arrived on scene, police said.

As responding officers approached, the man, later identified as Garcia, dropped the rifle and fled on foot, leading police into a nearby junkyard.

According to a news release issued Wednesday morning, officers believe Garcia may have still been armed, and additional resources were called to the area to help search for him. After several hours, the search was suspended with Garcia nowhere to be found.

The LAPD continues to search for Garcia and residents of South L.A. are encouraged to “be aware of their surroundings and to notify the police of any suspicious activity or individuals loitering in the area.”

Officials say the Police Department will be increasing patrols in South L.A. while Garcia is on the run, and residents can expect to see more squad cars and uniformed officers in the area.

Anyone with information about Garcia’s location is urged to contact LAPD Newton Area Detective at 323-846-6547. Anonymous tips can be provided online or by calling 800-222-8477.
