Last chance to get tickets to Sacramento food event with The Rind. What’s on the menu?

Tickets are going fast for “News & Nosh,” The Sacramento Bee’s June 25 event featuring The Rind owner Sara Arbabian.

It’s a chance to hear us discuss the Sacramento area’s restaurant scene, including how The Rind’s cheese-focused concept has navigated midtown’s changes over the past decade.

But let’s be honest: “News & Nosh” is about the food, and the beverages that make it shine. Tickets for the evening event, which can be purchased on Eventbrite and are $50 apiece, include nibbles from The Rind as well as complementary pour from top-notch local wineries selected by the El Dorado 8, a local wine collective.

What’s on the menu from The Rind and local wineries?

The event menu includes:

“Not Your Mom’s Mac” made with Parmigiano-Reggiano 2 yr., Grand Cru Gruyere, Black Diamond 5 yr. Cheddar and bread crumbs served at The Rind on Friday, May 24, 2024 in Sacramento.

Not Your Mom’s Mac: A three-cheese feast centered around five-year-old Black Diamond sharp white cheddar, Grand Cru Gruyere and two-year-old Parmigiano-Reggiano. The Rind’s take on macaroni and cheese is a sumptious flagship dish topped with crunchy breadcrumbs. It was featured in “Sacramento Eats: Recipes from the Capital Region’s Favorite Restaurants,” The Bee’s cookbook that includes dishes and drinks from 60 local institutions.

Raclette: This Alpine favorite is best enjoyed melted and shaved over finger foods — in this case, Brussels sprouts, roasted fingerling potatoes and house-pickled vegetables.

Basque cups: Bitter endive cups are filled with Idiazábal, a smoky Basque sheep cheese, and topped with with shaved radicchio, toasted almonds and a Romesco vinaigrette.

Cherries & burrata: Sweet satisfaction comes in the shape of this dessert, which sees creamy Di Stefano burrata adorned with cherry compote, pistachio crumbles and chocolate dust.

And what’s cheese without a little wine? The Bee will also serve complementary wine from the El Dorado 8, a group of foothill wineries including Boeger, Starfield and Miraflores. Free beer and nonalcoholic drinks will also be available, if those are more your speed.

When and where is News & Nosh?

“News & Nosh” will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on June 25 at The Bee’s newsroom, 1601 Alhambra Blvd., Suite 100 in The Cannery development.

Be sure to purchase tickets in advance: the first such event with Kru Contemporary Japanese Cuisine chef and owner Billy Ngo sold out in March.
