Los Angeles police release startling video of January hit-and-run; suspect remains outstanding

The suspect in a January hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles remains outstanding, and police are hoping that newly released video footage can help track them down.

According to a press release issued by the Los Angeles Police Department, the hit-and-run occurred at 7:42 p.m. on Jan. 22 at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 60th Street in L.A.’s Hyde Park neighborhood.

The victim, a 72-year-old woman, was crossing in a marked crosswalk when she was struck.

New video posted by the LAPD shows the suspect’s vehicle, a late model gray SUV, making a right turn at a green light.  The pedestrian had the right of way, as the “Walk” sign is visible in the footage.

Upon hitting the woman, the SUV stops briefly, reverses and then drives forward, running her over.

The woman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries after being struck.

No description of the driver was available nor was the exact make and model of the vehicle they were driving.

The investigation remains ongoing.
