Loved ones remember mother of 6 killed in Pomona hit-and-run

Friends and family gathered in Pomona Friday evening for a vigil honoring a mother of six who died following a hit-and-run crash on July 5. The driver remains at large.

Carol Fuentes, 57, was on her way home from gambling at the Morongo Casino when, according to police, she was involved in a three-car collision caused by the driver of a Ford Expedition at about 9 p.m. at the intersection of Garey and Orange Grove avenues.

Fuentes, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, was among four people who were hospitalized. The driver of the Expedition ran away from the scene.

Fuentes died from her injuries ten days later.

“Carol was a cherished mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend to many whose lives she touched deeply,” wrote Alex Fuentes, who organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her funeral expenses. “We are devastated by this unexpected loss.”

“Losing a mom is very hard because she’s the foundation of our family,” Andy Diaz, Carol’s son, told KTLA’s Rick Chambers at Friday’s vigil. “She’s the one who loves us and brings the love and joy to everybody.

Anyone with information about this collision is urged to call the Pomona Police Department’s Traffic Services Bureau at (909) 802-7741 or (909) 620-2048.
