Man arrested in Butte County after small fire torches vehicle near Concow, Cal Fire says

Authorities arrested a man Wednesday in Butte County on suspicion of arson, Cal Fire officials said in a news release.

At 7:30 p.m. July 17, firefighters were called to a blaze that sparked near Rock House restaurant and cafe off Highway 70 and Timtam Lane in Concow. Once on scene, firefighters contained the damage to a 50-by-70-foot area and a single burned vehicle, Cal Fire’s Butte County unit said.

Following the fire, Cal Fire investigators interviewed individuals to investigate the cause of the vegetation fire. During this process, authorities spoke to Douglas Allen Rowell, 64. After interviewing him, authorities arrested Rowell on suspicion of arson to forestland, firefighters said.

Rowell was booked Wednesday into Butte County jail, county logs showed.

To report suspicious fire activity or information about the fire, Cal Fire encouraged the public to call the Cal Fire BTU’s Fire Prevention Bureau at 530-538-7888 or the Cal Fire Arson Tip Line at 800-468-4408.
