Man in custody following sex assault of woman with newborn in upscale L.A. neighborhood

A possible suspect is in custody Thursday in connection with the physical and sexual assault of a woman who was walking with her 4-week-old baby in Brentwood earlier this week.

Carmina Lu said she was attacked around 5 p.m. Tuesday shortly after she said goodbye to a friend and her young daughter, with whom she’d been conversing in the 900 block of South Gretna Green Way.

“It was really awful,” Lu said. “I just would never expect anything like this to happen, especially one month after giving birth to a beautiful baby.”

She said the attacker was not wearing a shirt and described him as a white male in his 20s with a thin build and brown hair.

The attacker approached Lu from behind and then “grabbed me by the hips with both of his hands and started sexually assaulting me,” Lu explained.

On Thursday, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Miller confirmed that someone was in custody in connection with the attack but could not provide any further details.

Lu, who said she was punched in the face and left with a split lip, cuts under her eyes and suffered a scalp injury that required staples, said she was grateful to hear of the update.

Lu’s baby was not injured in the attack.

“Honestly, what scared me the most is that right before he ran away, he glanced at my stroller for a split second. If something had happened to the baby, I just would’ve been devastated,” she said.
