Man re-enters burning Los Angeles home to rescue dog

A Koreatown resident is lucky to be alive after re-entering a burning home to rescue his dog Friday.

The fire was reported at the one-story home in the 900 block of Kenmore Avenue shortly before 10 a.m.

Crews arrived to find the home already well involved with flames, the Los Angeles Fire Department stated in a news alert.

The man had safely evacuated the home prior to the firefighters’ arrival but went back in to look for his dog.

“Though he amazingly survived his attempt at this often deadly action, the intense heat and smoke soon pushed him out of the home, before he could find his pet,” the Fire Department stated.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed the man being treated on the sidewalk for smoke exposure and minor thermal injury.

Fire crews later confirmed the dog was rescued and safely reunited with its owner.

Flames also threatened adjacent homes to the north and south but crews managed to douse the fire and contain it to the original structure

The Fire Department reminded residents never to re-enter a burning building.

“If people, pets or possessions remain behind, tell the first arriving firefighters,” the statement read. “They are trained, equipped and prepared to rescue them from the flames.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
