Man killed by roommate at Irvine sober-living house, police say
An Indiana man is in custody after he allegedly killed a fellow resident of a sober-living facility in Irvine Monday morning.
The Irvine Police Department announced on X, formerly Twitter, that a homicide had occurred near Tyler Place and Boulder Creek Way. Police spokesperson Kyle Oldoerp confirmed to KTLA that the site of the death is a six-person sober-living facility and that police were called just after 6 a.m.
The victim, an 18-year-old man whose identity has not been released, was found seriously injured with blunt-force trauma injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspected killer, 24-year-old Baxton Tysean Hill, had fled the scene but was taken into custody near Barstow by the California Highway Patrol just before 9 a.m., Oldoerp said.
Both Hill and the victim lived at that sober-living home and were believed to be roommates, police said. The attack occurred in one of the home’s bedrooms, Oldoerp said.
A possible motive has not been released, and the exact cause of death remains under investigation.
