Man wins $1 million while running errands in Whittier

Running routine errands turned out to be a life-changing experience for a man who bought a California Lottery Scratchers ticket in Whittier recently.

Saul Montero stopped by Prime Liquor Mart while taking care of personal business one afternoon and became an instant millionaire when he purchased a Multiplier Craze Scratchers game.

“Montero uncovered the top prize, earning him an incredible $1,000,000,” the Lottery stated in a news release.

Montero said his million-dollar windfall would go toward paying off a house and possibly buying a new car.

“The lucky number was eight. I saw the zeros and thought I might have won $100. I’ve never won anything large like that. It took a minute for it to really settle in,” Montero said.

Meanwhile, Janet Coppedge in Dublin, California and Phong Nguyen in Costa Mesa, California both won $10,000 playing Scratchers tickets.

Coppedge bought a California 200X Scratchers ticket at A&A Gas and Food Mart and Nguyen purchased a Super Bonus Scratchers from Manneh’s Alta Dena Dairy.
