Marijuana product in NJ recalled after package found containing bugs and hair

New Jersey cannabis officials have recalled a marijuana product after testing revealed bugs and hair inside items sold to consumers.

The state Cannabis Regulatory Commission announced Monday that "Green Joy," a wholesale flower resold by Hunterdon County-based Green Medicine NJ, was in violation of state law requiring cannabis items be "free of dirt, sand, debris, and other foreign matter."

The commission began an investigation after a complaint was filed July 18 alleging Green Medicine cultivated and sold contaminated products. A test of 15 Green Joy samples from one dispensary found 12 flower packages containing insects and another appeared to contain human hair.

Green Medicine has been ordered to immediately recall the flower, which is also sold in pre-rolls in different sizes of jars and boxes. The commission is continuing to conduct random samples and testing at facilities associated with the company.

A list of affected batch and lot numbers is available on the commission website. Consumers should check the packaging label and return any affected products to the location where it was purchased for a full refund.
