Meth dealer sentenced to 20 years

Jul. 30—GREENSBURG — A convicted drug dealer was recently sentenced to nearly two decades behind bars.

According to Decatur County Prosecutor Nate Harter, Chay M. Lecher, 41, was convicted and sentenced in Decatur Superior Court on one count of dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony, along with a habitual offender sentencing enhancement.

Following a negotiated plea and argued sentencing hearing, Judge Matthew Bailey sentenced Lecher to a total of 20 years with 19 of those years served in prison followed by one year of supervised probation. Lecher was also on probation at the time of his arrest, so an additional 400 days in prison was ordered served.

Lecher was arrested on March 6, 2023 following a Decatur County Court Services probation compliance check assisted by the Greensburg Police Department.

Court documents indicate Lecher was found to be in possession of a several controlled substances, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin and morphine.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy Prosecutor Doug Brown.

"We are very pleased with the effort shown by Decatur County Court Services, not only in this case, but in continued supervision of our criminal offenders," Brown said. "Director Matt Hoeing and Assistant Director Abby Harry are building a culture of accountability with the offenders that are serving terms of home detention and probation. We also appreciate the cooperation of the Greensburg Police Department in assisting Court Services on these compliance checks. I am thankful we were able to get a known drug dealer out of the community for a substantial period of time."
