Sunday seemed like a typical day before the start of the week until President Joe Biden made the explosive announcement that would rock the 2024 presidential election.

Moments before President Biden revealed that he was dropping out of the presidential race both he and Vice President Kamala Harris were trying to get a hold of one person, California Governor Gavin Newsom.

However, he was getting his morning workout in.

“I wasn’t sitting down when I got the word, I was on my treadmill,” Newsom revealed. “That was the last thing I was expecting on a quiet Sunday.”

The former San Francisco mayor revealed this on the first episode of his podcast “Politickin'” which he hosts alongside Super Bowl champion Marshawn Lynch and sports agent Doug Hendrickson.

When Hendrickson asked Newsom if Biden called him, the governor said he felt “even worse” because “the phone was ringing off the hook” and his voicemail box was full.

“I get all these text messages from the White House saying the president’s trying to get in touch with you but I didn’t even see them,” he explained as his cohosts are aghast.

“So the president calls, the vice president calls. I’m still in the damn gym. I did not even know they called because the rest of my phone was lighting up.”

He then doubled down on his support for Vice President Harris.

“I was focusing on putting out a statement on behalf of the president. Marshawn, people are all in now for Kamala Harris,” he explained. “All in. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

During the nearly 90-minute podcast, the former Oakland Raiders running back pressed Newsom as to why he’s not running.

“Hell no, Gavin, why the f— you ain’t runnin’ for President? F—that…I’m sorry,” Beast Mode asked.

“I’ve been tripping and trying to figure out why my boy Batman is not running for motherf—-ing president. That’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve been trying to figure out why dog ain’t running for president,” he continued to joke.

Batman is the nickname the internet has given the politician because many say he sounds like Christian Bale’s rendition of the caped crusader in the 2008 film “The Dark Knight.”

Lynch then jokingly asked how “the script” would be affected now that the Democrats have a new presidential candidate. At the same time, the former Seattle Seahawk was poking fun at NFL fans’ claims that the organization is rigged.

“The script is written by the American people, Marshawn. This script is written by the people that get out there,” Newsom explained. “This is an easy choice. It’s not 31 flavors, buddy. This a binary choice. You got the guy who wants to bring us back to a pre-1960s world, or you got Kamala Harris who’s just lighting it up right now.”

During the podcast, Newsom condemned the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump and revealed he reached out to the Trump family after the shooting.

“Nothing about that was right,” he emphatically exclaimed about the shooting.

The first episode of “Politickin'” dropped on Tuesday, after being postponed following the assassination attempt.

Earlier this month the men revealed they would be joining forces for the show as a way to hold “conservations that need to be had.”

The trio’s podcast is available now on iHeart Podcasts and wherever else you get your podcasts.
