NHC says 80 percent chance of cyclone south of Cape Verde islands

(Reuters) - A low pressure system located 300 miles (483 km) south of the Cape Verde islands has an 80 percent chance of strengthening into a tropical cyclone over the next two days, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Thursday. Environmental conditions are expected to remain conducive for development, and a tropical depression is likely to form on Thursday night or Friday, the Miami-based weather forecaster said.
