One man killed, one wounded in double shooting along midtown Sacramento street, police say

One man was killed and another was hospitalized after a double shooting early Saturday in Sacramento’s midtown district.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers were called just before 1:15 a.m. to reports of gunfire on the 1500 block of 20th Street. Witnesses told police, according to archived radio dispatches reviewed by The Sacramento Bee, that the gunman may have been in a vehicle when the gunfire started in an auto works parking lot next to a bar between O and P streets.

Officers arrived to find one man with “at least one gunshot wound,” said Officer Anthony Gamble, a spokesman for the Police Department. The man, described by paramedics as a man in his 30s, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another man who was shot was located after friends drove him to UC Davis Medical Center. According to radio dispatches, the vehicle that drove the man to the hospital had “several bullet holes.”

Gamble said the second victim was listed in “stable” condition at the hospital and was expected to recover.

No suspects were announced by police and a motive for the shooting also was not known.

Gamble said that anyone with information was encouraged to call police at 916-808-5471.

The identity of the man who died was expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once relatives are notified of his death.
