One seriously injured in Key West personal watercraft accident, fire department says

One person was seriously injured in a personal watercraft crash off Key West on Saturday afternoon, according to Monroe County Fire Rescue.

The crash happened around 12 p.m., according to dispatch records. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the police agency that investigates serious boat accidents, did not immediately respond to the Miami Herald’s request for details about the crash.

Kristen Livegood, spokeswoman for Monroe County Fire Rescue, said the department’s Trauma Star helicopter ambulance transported the patient to a hospital on the mainland.

Personal watercraft are small tandem boats more commonly referred to as Jet Skis, which is the brand name of a the version made by Kawasaki.
