Over a dozen homes have been destroyed or damaged in the Apache Fire in Butte County
Over a dozen single-family homes have been torched by this week’s Apache Fire, burning near Palermo in Butte County, officials say.
According to Cal Fire, 14 homes were destroyed and an additional two were damaged as a result of the wildfire, which started Monday. Firefighters said Wednesday evening that 405 other structures remain threatened and that a total of four firefighters have been injured while working to get the vegetation fire under control.
As of Thursday morning, firefighters had reached 75% containment of the blaze and crews are working to fully suppress the fire by the end of the day, officials said.
According to Cal Fire Butte Unit spokesperson Rick Carhart, crews did not see any new areas of concern overnight and the unit is confident that the fire will not spread any further than the 691 acres already charred.
Carhart said resources from Cal Fire Amador-El Dorado Unit and from municipal fire departments in the area have been a great help to Butte crews.
