Pedestrian killed in crash on 10 Freeway in Santa Monica

A pedestrian was killed in a crash that prompted a nearly three-hour closure of all westbound lanes on the 10 Freeway in Santa Monica and affected traffic on Pacific Coast Highway Tuesday morning.

The fatal incident was reported shortly after 2:30 a.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway at 4th Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An unidentified pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and was pronounced dead from the injuries.

No details about the crash were immediately available but the incident prompted a Sigalert for the closure of all westbound lanes.

Officials initially hoped to reopen the freeway by around 4:30 a.m. but it remained closed as of 5 a.m.

A closure was also in place on PCH at the California incline due to the investigation.

Around 5:15 a.m. officials announced the Sigalert was cancelled and all lanes were reopened on the 10 Freeway. Flares were also removed on PCH.
