Pedestrian struck, killed in Orangevale vehicle collision near Greenback Lane, CHP says

A pedestrian was killed Monday in Orangevale after a vehicle collision, authorities said.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol were called just before 7:50 a.m. for reports of a man struck by a vehicle, according to the CHP’s dispatch log. A Ford Fusion sustained windshield damage after the collision near the intersection of Hazel Avenue and Greenback Lane, though its driver did not suffer any injuries, the CHP said.

The man was walking on a raised center on Hazel Avenue, south of Greenback Lane, when he was struck by the Fusion for unknown reasons, said Officer Trent Senter, a spokesman for the CHP’s East Sacramento office.

The man was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, Senter said. His identity was expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once relatives are notified of his death.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors contributing to the collision, the CHP said. The investigation was ongoing.
