Is Peet’s Coffee closing its location in midtown Sacramento?

The retail space that currently houses Peet’s Coffee at 1050 20th St., Suite 190, is available for rent according to Turton Commercial Real State of Sacramento.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Turton senior vice president Scott Kingston said the roughly 1,750-square-foot coffee shop and its “huge corner patio” are “available now.”

Kingston urged would-be tenants to “act fast,” before directing them to contact his colleague at the Sacramento real estate firm, Jack Scurfield.

The Sacramento Bee reached out to Kingston, Scurfield and Peet’s Coffee on Monday morning to get answers about the future of the coffee shop.

Scurfield declined to comment on the status of the space and its current tenant before telling a Bee reporter that Kingston could “provide some further details.”

As of Monday afternoon, Kingston had not returned several requests for comment.

Is Peet’s Coffee in midtown Sacramento closing?

It’s unclear.

In an email on Monday afternoon, Peet’s Coffee spokeswoman Mary O’Connell wrote that the coffee company plans to stay put.

“We have no plans to move or close the store,” she said, adding that the lease for the midtown location runs through the end of January and Peet’s Coffee plans to renew it for an additional five years.

The coffee shop opened in November 2007.

“We’re committed to midtown,” O’Connell said, before telling a Bee reporter there’s been “some miscommunication” with Turton Commercial Real Estate.

The 20th Street site will be available for lease on Feb. 1, 2025, Kingston wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday.

Peet’s Coffee, housed in the Midtown Art Retail Restaurant Scene Building, is known for its proximity to the weekly Midtown Farmers Market.

It’s adjacent to Kin Thai Street Eatery, Sacramento Comedy Spot and Nekter Juice Bar.

“This retail spot is ideal for a tenant seeking high foot traffic counts and local prestige,” Turton Commerical Real Estate wrote on its site, adding that the shared patio space has become “a local fixture and gathering site for Sacramentans going out in midtown.”

Both Kingston and Scurfield are listed as brokers for the property.
