Placer County sheriff’s deputies searching for 70-year-old hiker last seen over the weekend

Placer County sheriff’s deputies announced Sunday that they are searching for a man last seen hiking on a trail.

On Friday, Warren Elliott, 70, was last spotted on the Rubicon Trail wearing a blue denim short-sleeve shirt and shorts to match, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday.

The 22-mile off-road trail travels through the Sierra Nevada, between Georgetown and Lake Tahoe, according to Visit El Dorado.

It’s considered a “challenging route,” according to outdoor traveling company AllTrails.

Placer County deputies said roughly 100 searchers from nine Northern California agencies were deployed on Sunday for the search and rescue operation.

The National Guard is also part of the search mission, using a Black Hawk helicopter to help locate Elliott.
