‘Praying for a Delta breeze.’ Sacramento residents react on social media to ‘ugly hot’ weather

If there’s one thing Sacramento residents can bond over, it’s the tortuous heat that rolls into the region nearly every summer.

Locals have been taking to social media lately to share memes and jokes about the heat wave broiling the Sacramento Valley.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, triple-digit temperatures are expected to continue into next week.

Following highs of 110 degrees on Friday and Saturday, temperatures could drop to the low 100s starting Sunday, the weather service said.

What are people saying about Sacramento heat wave?

Reddit user FreaksNake1237 recently posted an image of Earth and the sun — with Sacramento in the middle of the two — on the Sacramento community subreddit.

“Makes sense,” user othafa_95610 replied. “Sacramento’s alternative rock station ALT 94.7 frequently plays tunes by Empire of the Sun.”

In another post, user CryptographerDry884 said, “I’m ready to make irrational decisions.”

“Don’t worry only 10+ more days,” user Drexele replied.

Some residents commented about how it feels to step outside in Sacramento’s hot weather.

One Reddit user shared a still image from the movie “RoboCop,” depicting a character melting after being exposed to toxic waste, with the caption, “Me after being outside for two minutes to check on the mail today.”

“Lol my mail can wait,” Reddit user Mundane_Activity_602 wrote in a comment on the post.

“(It’s) the type of heat that just slaps you in the face the moment you open the door,” Reddit user CharlieTree916 commented.

In a separate post, Reddit user katmom1969 asked their fellow Redditors to share their hot weather survival tips.

“It’s just ugly hot. ... Too hot to even go out into the pool,” the Reddit user wrote.

Some commenters suggested chugging cold drinks, dumping ice in a wading pool or taking a day trip to a cooler city.

“Praying for a Delta breeze,” Reddit user charliedubbs_ commented.

What are the ‘13 seasons of Sacramento’?

Of course, weather-related posts aren’t complete without references to the classic meme “13 seasons of Sacramento.”

The commonly shared image, which sometimes ranges from 12 to 16 seasons, shows the different seasonal stages of the city. They include winter, the “spring of deception,” “the pollening” and “false fall.”

“Guess what season we are in?” Reddit user dust_storm_2 said.

“Summer,” replied one Reddit commenter, thavillain. “We haven’t even hit melting State Fair weather yet.”

“I’d definitely say hell,” Reddit use Public-Wolverine6276 wrote.

How to say cool in Northern California

The best way to avoid Sacramento’s relentless heat is to spend time inside air-conditioned spaces and staying hydrated.

There are several cooling centers you can go to in the Sacramento area, as well as libraries, community centers, swimming pools and spray parks.

Sacramento Regional Transit is offering free bus and light rail rides for those traveling to and from cooling centers in Sacramento County through Sunday.

The Sacramento region is under an excessive heat warning until 11 p.m. Tuesday, which means heat-related illnesses are possible.

The National Weather Service advises people to take precautions when outside, wear lightweight clothing and limit strenuous activities.
