Riverside County deputies seized about 150 pounds of fireworks on July Fourth

Sheriff’s deputies in Riverside County issued dozens of citations for illegal firework use on the Fourth of July, authorities say.

According to the county’s Sheriff’s Office, the Lake Elsinore Station’s Special Enforcement Team took a “proactive” approach to enforcing local laws regarding fireworks. In Riverside County, all fireworks, even sparklers, are illegal for private use.

In total, 56 citations were issued on July Fourth for possession of fireworks. An additional criminal violation was given for intent to distribute fireworks.

Deputies seized about 150 pounds of illegal fireworks during the operation.

“The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station encourages the communities we serve to enjoy our nation’s holidays in a safe environment and leave the pyrotechnics/fireworks to the professionals,” a statement from the Sheriff’s Office reads.

There was no word on whether there were any injuries or emergencies as a result of firework use. In Los Angeles and Orange counties, multiple injuries and fires occurred, likely due to the use of illegal fireworks.
