Sacramento is finally cooling down after heat wave. When will temperatures start to dip?

After several days of punishing summer heat, Sacramento is headed for a cool-down.

That’s according to the National Weather Service’s latest forecast, which calls a temporary end to triple-digit temperatures in the capital region.

The Sacramento Valley and other parts of Northern California are under a heat advisory through Wednesday night.

The weather could start cooling down on Thursday, forecasts show.

Heat advisory issued for Northern California

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory early Tuesday morning that will remain in effect until 11 p.m. Wednesday.

During that time, parts of Northern California can expect high temperatures soaring as high as 100 to 112 degrees and warm overnight low temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 80s, the agency said.

The advisory affects cities in the Sacramento Valley, northeast Sierra Nevada foothills and northern San Joaquin Valley, Including the cities of Redding, Red Bluff, Chico, Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto.

What’s in the forecast for Sacramento?

According to the forecast, 100-degree heat is expected to stick around for a couple days until the mercury drops.

The weather service predicted a high temperature of 105 degrees on Tuesday, with a low temperature around 73 degrees.

The high on Wednesday is expected to hit 102 before the temperature drops to a low of 69 degrees.

Temperatures could start inching away from the triple digits on Thursday.

The high for Thursday will be near 99 degrees, the weather service said, and the low will be around 63.

Friday is expected to see a high of 89 degrees and a low around 58.

On Saturday, the high could drop near 87, and the low will be around 58.

Sunday’s high is expected to be near 90 with a low near 59.

Will the weather stay cool?

Triple-digit temperatures will likely return to the area next week, specifically in Redding and the Red Bluff area, according to Jeffrey Wood, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Sacramento office.

Sacramento can expect a warm-up following the weekend, Wood said.

He said highs in the capital city may rise to the mid- to upper 90s next week.
