This sizzling California city just recorded its all-time hottest temperature
When your city is known for its scorching heat, it’s hard to reach new heights — but that’s exactly what this California summer staple did on Friday.
Palm Springs, the majestic tourist destination nestled in Southern California’s Sonoran Desert, reached 124 degrees on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
That mark is the highest temperature ever recorded in Palm Springs. The NWS says the previous record of 123 was achieved on June 17, 2021, July 28 and 29, 1995 and Aug. 1, 1993.
The 124 degree temperature was recorded at the Palm Springs Regional Airport by the NWS at 1:53 p.m.
Saturday will still be blazing hot in Palm Springs but it’s unlikely to reach the heights of Friday. The NWS forecast showed a nice and cool 117 degree day on Saturday.
The desert paradise wasn’t the only Southern California city to record an all-time heat record, however. Idyllwild tied its record of 104 Friday, matching a temperature set on June 16, 2021 and Sept. 6, 2020.
