Slidell man arrested after fatal car crash

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — Slidell police have made an arrest following a fatal car crash on Friday, May 10.

According to the Slidell Police Department, the crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Gause Boulevard, Highway 190 westbound.

At the scene, SPD officers said they found 42-year-old Jairus Pratt lying in the road with injuries and a red Chevrolet Silverado in a ditch.

According to investigators, Pratt was walking east on the shoulder of Gause Boulevard West when the Chevrolet, driven by 36-year-old Eric Gonzales, allegedly hit Pratt.

Pratt suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

SPD investigators say Gonzalez showed signs of impairment and was arrested.

Gonzalez faces charges of driving under the influence, careless operation of a motor vehicle and vehicular homicide.
