Suspect arrested for deadly 2020 shooting of 20-year-old man in Woodland, police say

A homicide suspect was arrested Tuesday morning in connection to the 2020 shooting death of a 20-year-old man in Woodland, according to the Woodland Police Department.

Law enforcement officials found that Dennis Jaramillo, a 20-year-old man from the Colusa County town of Grimes, fled to Mexico following the shooting of Isaac Morales at his home on Jan. 9, 2020, the Woodland Police Department said Wednesday in a news release.

The case remained cold until Woodland police investigators found that Jaramillo had crossed back into the U.S. and confirmed his location in Colusa County, according to the news release. Authorities arrested Jaramillo around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Jaramillo was booked at the Yolo County Jail for homicide and participating in a criminal street gang, according to Woodland police.

Morales’ death was the third in a string of unsolved shootings that occurred in Woodland within three months of each other in late 2019 and early 2020, resulting in the deaths of Alvaro Gamera, 16, and Raymond Ortiz, 44. The Woodland Police Department formed a gang task force following the homicides and offered reward money for tips, the Daily Democrat newspaper reported.
