A taco café? Late night gyros? These 24 restaurants just opened around Sacramento

Sacramento’s outside temperatures are heating up. So is its food scene.

These 24 restaurants opened across 12 Sacramento-area cities in June.

Ten concepts debuted within Sacramento city limits, while another three opened in Elk Grove, two opened in Citrus Heights and one opened in Roseville, Davis, Orangevale, Woodland, Rancho Cordova, Folsom, Fair Oaks, Granite Bay and North Highlands.

Akira Japanese Restaurant (6191 Greenback Lane, Suite C, Citrus Heights): Sushi rolls, lunchtime bento boxes and a surprising range of salads dot the expansive menu at this strip mall Japanese restaurant that opened June 6.

Buffalo Wild Wings Go (1420 65th St., Suite 107, Sacramento): This concept in East Sacramento’s F65 development isn’t your normal B-Dubs: the region’s first Buffalo Wild Wings Go opened on June 18 with a focus on takeout and delivery orders and a smaller footprint devoid of the sports bar’s typical big screens.

Crawdad’s On The Lake (9900 Greenback Lane, Folsom): The Lake Natoma-adjacent sister concept to Crawdad’s On The River, a North Sacramento institution since 1986, Crawdad’s On The Lake began pairing frozen cocktails and crab melt sandwiches with live music on June 14 in Cliff House of Folsom’s former space.

Doma Korean Restaurant (9521 Folsom Blvd., Suite A, Sacramento): Doma, which translates to “cutting board” in Korean, began serving bossam (boiled pork belly) and galbi-jjim (braised short rib stew) on June 7 in La Riviera’s Butterfield Market shopping center.

Galbizip Korean BBQ House (2839 Zinfandel Drive, Rancho Cordova): Get your fill of all-you-can-eat hot pot, sushi and Korean barbecue at Galbizip, which began its soft opening on June 18 and hopes to eventually expand to the Bay Area.

Halal Muncheez (907 K St., Sacramento): One of Sacramento’s few late-late-night food options, Halal Muncheez whips out gyros, fried chicken and kebab plates along The Kay until 4 a.m. seven days a week — then opens back up at 10 a.m. to greet the downtown lunch crowd.

Harir Gyro & Burger (9270 Greenback Lane, Orangevale): Try kebabs or falafel at this Middle Eastern restaurant, or opt for an $8 burger made with chicken and steak gyro meat and topped with Thousand Island dressing, mayonnaise, Swiss cheese, pickles, lettuce, onions and tomatoes.

Holy Coffee (4612 Roseville Road, Suite 107, North Highlands): Need a nighttime pick-me-up? Head to this United Church-connected cafe, which serves baked goods and Onyx Coffee Lab products until 10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.

Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken (4581 Mack Road, Sacramento): A Los Angeles-based chain with four area locations predating the new south Sacramento one, Louisiana Famous specializes in fried chicken but also sells fried shrimp, dirty rice and quarts of gumbo at fast food prices.

Ludy’s BBQ (401 Pioneer Ave., Suite B, Woodland): Yolo County’s most popular barbecue joint went catering-only in 2017, but opened a new brick-and-mortar storefront to serve hot links, smoked chicken and even weekend prime rib.

Maya’s Authentic Mexican Food (237 D St., Davis): Daisy Maya, a member of the family behind Taqueria Maya and Maya Traditional Mexican Cuisine in Sacramento, adapted elders’ Guanajuato-borne recipes to build her own downtown Davis concept.

Momo Korean Egg Drop (8848 Calvine Road, Suite 160, Sacramento and 1164 Galleria Blvd., Suite 110, Roseville): This Korean-inspired, Philippines-based scrambled egg sandwich chain opened its first United States location at Sacramento’s southern border on June 1, then added another in Roseville’s Ridge at Creekside shopping center, both inside Bober Tea & Coffee stores.

Nameless Tea & Coffee (813 16th St., Sacramento): Nameless hopes to make a name for itself in midtown Sacramento with boba drinks as well as Thai tea macarons, fresh avocado smoothies and Vietnamese coffee.

Pintworks (116 N. 16th St., Sacramento): The brewpub offshoot of Pipeworks rock climbing gym open to all, Pintworks unveiled its Detroit-style pizzas, tri-tip sandwiches and seasonal salads on June 1.

Sette Pasta House (6851 Douglas Blvd., Suite B, Granite Bay): Fourk Kitchen chef/owner Paul Jansen’s Italian restaurant, opened on June 20, translates to “seven” and lists that many menu items per day: five fresh pastas and two rotating entrees.

Shabu Gen (9135 W. Stockton Blvd., Suite 100, Elk Grove): Customers began indulging in all-you-can-eat sushi and shabu shabu, Japanese hot pot where diners individually “swish” meats and vegetables in broth, on June 5 in Laguna Gateway shopping center.

Sips & Scoops Handcrafted Coffee (1689 Arden Way, Suite 1110, Sacramento): Nav Uppal’s Arden Fair Mall cafe began serving pastries, Biscoff cookie butter frappés and scoops of ice cream (try ‘em in affogatos for a caffeine buzz) on June 21.

Slow & Low (9700 Railroad St., Elk Grove): LowBrau and Beast + Bounty founder Michael Hargis’ much-anticipated Cali-Southern barbecue joint and cocktail bar opened to long lines on June 1 in Old Town Elk Grove.

Society Bistro (1331 O St., Sacramento): Cap City Squeeze Juice Bar owner Nubia Murillo’s health-conscious downtown bistro serves breakfast and lunch plates (dinner and happy hour will be added in July), such as smoked salmon on toasted sourdough baguette with arugula, watermelon radish slices, whipped cream cheese and mashed avocado or the “brie happy” flatbread with prosciutto and balsamic drizzle.

Sweet Haven Bakery (6100 Birdcage Centre Lane, Suite 124, Citrus Heights): Haven Claycomb’s vegan and non-vegan pastries wowed Hayvy Bayky Bake Shop pop-up customers for four years before Gen Z pastry chef opened a brick-and-mortar store on June 15 at Marketplace at Birdcage shopping center.

Tacos By Tijuana (7405 Winding Way, Fair Oaks): Tijuana-style tacos topped with hearty ladles of guacamole are the specialty at this Fair Oaks taqueria, which held its grand opening on June 22.

Taste of Pho (2300 Longport Court, Suite 102, Elk Grove): Tamarind sea snails, chicken pho and seafood noodle soups define this Vietnamese restaurant just off Interstate 5, which opened on June 21.

Zoe Coffee & Tacos (1829 22nd St., Sacramento): Veteran caterer Josue Acosta’s Newton Booth cafe began serving pupusas and breakfast tacos on housemade tortillas with signature salsa on June 1.
