Teen killed in Arden Arcade apartment complex shooting that wounded man, Sacramento sheriff says

A teenager was killed Monday after a shooting broke out at an Arden Arcade apartment complex that also left another person suffering at least one gunshot wound, authorities said.

Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies were called just after 10:15 p.m. to the Ethan Apartments on the 1900 block of Ethan Way. A caller reported multiple gunshots ringing out and a person screamed that they had been hit, according to archived audio dispatch calls reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.

The gunfire struck a 15-year-old boy, who was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The boy had been conscious when first responders arrived on the scene.

The teen will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after family has been notified.

Another victim suffered his wounds inside an apartment, according to the audio. The victim who survived was a man in his 20s.

A witness told dispatchers that a bullet pierced a window and lodged into a cabinet, according to the audio.

Gandhi did not announce a suspect description, but said the shooting appeared to be gang-related. According the audio, a suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
