Thieves cut down disabled parking sign to steal e-bike in Upland

Thieves used a saw to cut down a disabled parking sign and steal an e-bike in Upland Tuesday, police said.

Investigators said the incident occurred after a man rode the bike to work and locked it up to the metal parking sign.

“It didn’t take long for 3 thieves to see the bike, remove the license plate on their truck, and get to ‘work,'” the Upland Police Department stated on Instagram Wednesday.

Video posted by the Police Department showed the suspects failing in their attempt to break the lock so they used a cordless saw to topple the sign, grab the bike and flee.

Officers later located a truck that matched the description of the suspects’ vehicle and noticed that it had a bike in the bed.

“Officers paid a visit to their home here in Upland and found the bike hidden under a blanket,” the post read.

The three suspects were arrested on suspicion of felony theft and felony vandalism.

Two of the suspects were on probation out of Los Angeles County, the Police Department said.
