Traffic alert: one person dead, one major North Miami-Dade street closed at rush hour

Tuesday morning rush hour began with parts of a major street and avenue closed in Miami Gardens by a two-car crash that left at least one person dead.

Northwest 183rd Street, Miami Gardens Drive, is closed from 20th to 22nd avenues and Northwest 22nd Avenue is closed from 181st Street to 184th Street.

WSVN-Channel 7’s traffic helicopter showed one crumpled car near the intersection of Northwest 22nd Avenue and 183rd Street. Another car was stopped over a block away, on the other side of the street and sitting against a fence in a parking lot. Pieces of the cars’ bodies and windshields strewn on the street connected the cars.

The yellow tarpaulin used to cover a body was on the driver’s side of the crumpled car.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the crash happened after 4 a.m. and one person was taken to a hospital as a trauma alert patient.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more is learned.
