Two jailed after burglarizing Broward home, attempted murder and fleeing cops: police

Two men are behind bars after police say they broke into a Pembroke Pines home — where one of them allegedly held a man at knifepoint — and evaded arrest while leading officers on a brief chase.

Carlos Santiago Duran, 20, and Jorge Nicolas Uribe Jacome, 22, are being held in Broward County Jail. Both are charged with attempted murder, armed burglary and fleeing and eluding police.

Pembroke Police responded to a report early Monday morning of a man breaking into a home near Southwest 85 Terrace & Southwest 2 Street. Duran, aided by Jacome, had climbed up onto the balcony of the home and entered through a sliding glass door, according to a police report.

Inside the home were two victims, a man and a woman, who knew Duran, the report shows. Police say their investigation revealed that Duran and the man had argued earlier that night “at a social event.”

Once Duran was inside the home, he held the man at knife-point and tried to kill him, according to police. The woman then attempted to disarm Duran, cops added, giving the man time to dial 911.

Fleeing the house, Duran got inside a waiting Honda Civic being driven by Jacome. They sped away from the house, and were quickly spotted by police officers.

Jacome led the officers on a brief chase that ended when Jacome stopped the car at a gas station at 50 North University Drive, where both men were arrested, according to the report.

Duran is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment. As for Jacome, police say he’s charged with traffic related offenses.
